Dutch Offshore Contractors (DOC), group company of Van Es Group, has reached an important milestone with the commencement of one of the largest subsea cable transportation projects. Heavy-lift carrier FJORD departed from Vlissingen on 1 April for a project in the European offshore energy sector.
Fully integrated subsea-cable-transport unit
For this complex operation, DOC has mobilized the FJORD as a fully integrated subsea-cable-transport unit. In Soussaki, Greece, DOC will facilitate an intensive loading campaign, reflecting the scale and complexity of the project.
The specifications of this project highlight its magnitude:
- transport of approximately 200 kilometres of subsea cable
- a total loaded weight of 19,500 tonnes
- installation of three carousels, each with a capacity of 9,000 tonnes
- an advanced dual spooling operation, where cables are loaded directly and simultaneously from the factory with continuous monitoring of parameters
Full turnkey execution
Within this project, DOC is responsible for the full turnkey execution: from the initial engineering and deck-layout design to operational delivery. By using exclusively in-house equipment, DOC provides an integrated project solution tailored to the operational demands of the offshore energy sector.
Minimal handling, maximum efficiency
Upon completion of the loading process, the FJORD will depart for Poland, where the cables will be offloaded directly onto the cable-laying vessel for installation. This approach ensures minimal handling and maximum operational efficiency throughout the transport and transfer process.
Supporting the energy transition
With projects of this scale, DOC demonstrates its role as a reliable and critical logistics partner in the realization of the energy transition, while also showcasing how collaboration within Van Es Group strengthens complex international operations.
